Book Blogger Hop!

In the spirit of the Twitter Friday Follow, the Book Blogger Hop is a place just for book bloggers and readers to connect and share our love of the written word! This weeklyBOOK PARTY is an awesome opportunity for book bloggers to connect with other book lovers, make new friends, support each other, and generally just share our love of books! It will also give blog readers a chance to find other book blogs to read!

This week’s question comes from Elena who blogs at Books and Reviews! Thanks for submitting a question for our Hoppers, Elena! Be sure to visit her blog and tell her thank you!

“When did you realize reading was your passion and a truly important part of your life?”

My answer: Very, very, early on. Both of my parents were teachers, my mom a Kindergarten teacher, and they were big on early literacy. They made sure that from the beginning they read books to us each night before bed. My mom says that at the age of 3 I picked up a book and started reading it. I don't remember that, but I remember always reading.

There was no one moment that made me realize reading was my passion, it has always been. As a kid my favourite thing to do was go to the mall and get the next book in the series' I loved. Reading was just a natural thing. But when I did realize the importance of it when I had kids. Whenever I would be reading a book, my daughter would pick up one of hers and sit next to me and "read." I knew it was important for their literacy not only to read to them but to have them see me read. If I love it, they'll love it.

Thanks for hopping by. Leave a comment and let me know when you realized reading was your passion!

  1. It's great when there are parents that instill that need to read in kids. I read to my son when he was little and have always encouraged him to read every day. He's a better student and writer because of it! New follower!

  4. I remember going to the mall and getting my next series books, too! I was addicted to Sweet Valley High and Babysitters Club. I could spend hours in a bookstore!! :)

I have the Baby Planner in My TBR. Looking forward to your review. I enjoyed Josie's last book so I hope to get to this one soon.

  5. I have noticed that my youngest will not only play with his toys but choose to go to his bookshelf and 'read' a book (pre-reader).

I put this down to the fact that he sees me with a book more often than the teens did. (back then I crafted)

    Have a great weekend

  6. It's always great to have people to read to you when your young. Some of us don't realize how lucky we are to have that but you can tell a big difference in the kids who are read to and those that aren't. The Baby Planner looks like a good book..the cover caught my eye. Have a great weekend.

  7. When did I first realize I loved reading? I wish I could prove a pre-natal predilection towards books but my memories don’t stretch back quite that far.

The earliest memories I can recall involved books. First having them read to me then reading them on my own the minute I had the ability.

Books have been a major part of my life ever since. My passion for the written word knowing no bounds, I started writing books on top of reading them about ten years ago.

  9. Like Jen I used to love going and getting Sweet Valley High books when I was a kid! In school I used to stay in the library when it was rainy and organise the books!

    Have a great weekend!

  11. I think it's so wonderful when parents instill a love of books into their kids from an early age. I always tell my kids, the more you read, the better your other subjects in school will get. Great post Shan.
